Andre Furtado Amaral was born on 16th December 1987 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. He earned his MSc degree in Chemical Engineering at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) on the modeling of cross-flow cooling towers and the numerical solution of the resulting system. Currently a 4th year PhD student at PoliMi (Supervisor prof. Flavio Manenti) on the multiscale modelling of biomass conversion processes (the ‘biorefinery’ concept).
Research fields and interests
- Multi-scale simulation (kinetics, reactor, and process scale) and process design, integration and optimization.
- Processes for the conversion of biomass to chemicals, electricity and heat (the ‘biorefinery’ concept).
- Numerical methods and programming for chemical engineering problems
