The SuPER team groups different souls of Chemical Plants and Process Operations and it confers with high flexibility in addressing Grand Challenges at all the time / length scales (Figure 1) with appropriate laboratories, tools, frameworks and pilots, beyond industrial agreements to rise the technology readiness level in research and development activities.
The research covers a wide range of scale, from the understanding of single phenomena at the molecular scale up to the optimization of the most complex corporate structures using decision-making variable and AI algorithms, passing through the chemical-physical system scales, the reactor and process scale, and the plants and production site scales.
The reasearch activities are mainly focused on three topics:
- Decarbonization. All the activities dealing with CO2 capture and utilization aimed at reducing the environmental impact and planet resource exploitation to be exerted before the construction of a new plant.
- Digitalization. All programming activities related to existing plants aimed at improving the Nexus (performance, consumption, impact…) from the data analytics of plant data to the optimal selection of decision-making variables passing through Artifical Intelligence, Machine Learning, Digital Twin.
- Clean Technologies. All the activities that apply to existing (operating or less) plants aimed at making them more circular, more sustainable, more appealing.
